Amsterdam to Yorkshire is more than just a cycling club; it's a testament to resilience and community spirit, based in Mortimer Common, England. The club's origins are deeply rooted in a personal journey and a commitment to charitable fundraising. It's a place where the joy of cycling meets a powerful cause.
The club's focus is firmly on touring and social rides. It's about enjoying the English countryside and the camaraderie of fellow cyclists. The club was inspired by a lyric from "The Girls" musical, written by Tim Firth and Gary Barlow.
Amsterdam to Yorkshire has a strong connection to Bloodwise, a UK charity dedicated to blood cancer research and support. Paul Carless and Tom Stockwell have been raising funds for the charity for over three years. Paul was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia in 2013, and his experiences, including meeting the WI Calendar Girls, inspired him and Tom to undertake fundraising challenges. Their best-known challenge saw them cycling from Amsterdam to Yorkshire in July 2018, between Tuesday 10th and Saturday 14th.
For cyclists looking for a club with a heart, Amsterdam to Yorkshire offers a welcoming environment and the opportunity to contribute to a worthwhile cause. Contact Paul and Tom to learn more about their activities.
